installed in vmware on win2000

I have installed Astaro in VMware on windows 2000 pro.  
I have successfully installed astaro, and logged in.

I cannot ping the ip address set for my astaro firewall.
I can ping the other ip addresses.

I used my 1 nic for bridged networking.
I setup a custom nic for bridged networking.
There is another custom nic for nat.

I have to get my IP address by dhcp on a cable router.
That ip is given to my 1 nic.
My custom nic'(s) is assigned  192.168 addresses.

I want to have windows 2000 use a 192.168 address,  given from astaro, and astaro use the address given from my cable router by dhcp.

I can't figure it out.

    when talking about nics and vmware, please tell us which of these nics are physically present and which ones are logical nics...

    your 'scenario' might work, when the 'outgoing' nic is brigded (physical) and the connection to your host system is made via a host-only adapter (logical)... but in this case you must not have an ip on the physical nic in the host system...
    (didn't try..)
