asl4.0 install hangs

I'm trying to install asl 4.0, after booting I get
the blue banner screen
Loading bzImage........
Loading initrd.......... (...)
......... (...)
.......... (...)
..........
Ready.

At this point the install hangs.  I don't have any virtual consoles (ctrl alt's).

This same hardware runs (and installs) 3.2.1.6 perfectly.

I have
1) changed the cd drive (scsi)
2) burned new media (several actually, some at 2x write, different burners, etc.)
3) used a different scsi cable

I'm at a total loss.  Any suggestions?

Thank You,

Donavan
