SNMP on ASL 4.001

Just a quick question.  My upgrade from 3.216 to 4.001 worked flawlessly using the "backup and restore configuration" method.  I'm now trying to enable snmp from the outside to gather more operational statistics about the ASL server.  Should the snmp_howto that applied to version 3 still work ?  I never tried to make snmp available to the outside under version 3 and have been unsuccessful getting it to work under version 4?  Anyone have any experience in this matter ?

    Hi Michael,

    I actually just finished setting that up. You have to edit this file:

    /var/chroot-snmp.mrtg/usr/share/snmp/snmpd.conf

    with whatever you want your settings to be;

    then restart the service here:

    /etc/rc.d/snmpd restart

    which will take less than a second;

    then last, you have to allow snmp to your lan interface from whatever machine or network you are coming from.

    I add rocommunity public any in the conf file .. but am still not able to do a snmpwalk from outside .. when i see the packet logs i see that the snmppacket is being dropped . I have allowed snmp any to any in the packet rules.  Any ideas where am I am going wrong ??

    the packet filter 'ANY SNMP ANY' goes to in the forwarding chain.
    You want to access the firewall and so the packet filter have
    be present in the input chain -> 'ANY SNMP IP_FIREWALL' would 
    work but I am sure that you do not want to allow ANY to access
    your firewall via SNMP [;)]
