How about PCI Wireless Cards???

Has anyone got any info about whether ASL can handle a PCI wireless card instead of PCMCIA with adaptor?  Seems these would be more logical 'cause they have a connector for an external antenna. . .at least they'd be more logical for *MY* hoped-for application, which is to do a long-distance point-to-point with a directional antenna!  Clues, anyone?

    I just searched on wireless adaptors to see if there was new compatibility, and to my shock the first thread up was my own, from three years ago.  Simon or anyone else, have you got any wireless PCI adaptors to work with ASG in the ensuing three years?

    No sorry, Astaro removed support for wireless adapters due to security concerns.
    With the advent of WPA perhaps this is overzealous.  You may be able to hack support in but be aware it will break any warranty/support...

    Thanks Simon.  I'm just gonna do what I had planned before I asked this, which is to connect an access point to a DMZ and regulate its access on a hardware level with the WAP and on a traffic level with ASG.  Costs a little more in dollars and space, but easy beats hacking everything. . .

    If you really need wireless access for Astaro, a good option is to use a standard NIC and then use a wireless AP or a wireless bridge plugged into it.
