4.0 Install Fails on INIT

I've been running 3.207+ on the system below since it was released . Although its not an 8Gb disk (and possibly fails to meet the other modern requirements), 3.2 has been just fine. 

After install of 4.0, the last msg to print is the following:

  

Trying to move old root to /initrd failed
Unmounting old root
Trying to free ramdisk memory ... okay
Freeing unused kernel memory: 76k freed
  

[hang --INIT should happen here]

Please tell me this will be checked before the up2date upgrade becomes available. If not, Astaro may get alot of angry users complaining about FW receiving overnight death(during "upgrade").

And BTW, what causes this?  [:S]

    Which CPU do you use? This error occurs on computers with processors that are (currently) not supported (Pentium I & K6/K6-2)

    Here's my CPU info (below). No, I didn't read the release notes --I threw all caution to the wind on this upgrade but it only cost me a few hours of downtime. 

    You mentioned this processor is not  currently  supported. Does this imply that at some point in the near future it will be supported?

    Believe it or not, this is the fastest machine I can use as a firewall. It's unlikely I'd be able to buy more modern equipment for 4.0.

    Hi zeek.

    You are right, Pentium I and K6-2 will be supported in the future. Take a look at this thread!

    Yes, the thread is a definite "must read" regarding 4.0 --but the noise?! I'd really like to see a more official statement regarding this P1/K6 release... 

    I did a fair amount of digging around the BBs to see how loudly and clearly this >P1 issue was noted. The only official mention is in the "hardware compat list" http://docs.astaro.org/HCL-4.0.txt -> you must read carefully: CPU > Pentium I

    Anyhow, I'm glad they're going to continue support of the ghetto tech. I just wish they'd do a better job of communicating the new, strict requirement and letting everyone know when the P1/K6 support will be available.

    i have this same problem on my p4 1.6a /w intel mboard.  any ideas?
