PCMCIA 802.11 quetions for V4.0

Hello,
I was wondering about a couple of things with 802.11 with the new version of astaro.  Maybe someone on this forum has already crssed these bridges:
1.  Is theer any advantage to using Astaro as an Ad-hoc access point as opposed to setting up an interface and sticking a wireless AP into the network adapter (what I do now w/ astaro 3.2)
2.  is DWL-650+ AirPlus Enhanced supported?  I see DWL-650 is on the HCL.  650+ supports 22MB/s (40+ with new firmware) as well as 256 bit encryption.
3.  Does anyone know which specifric PCI to PCMCIA cards work with astaro?  I can not find too many chipsets listed on online stores, so its hard to tell what's supported.

    Hi there,

    1. there is no such thing as an Ad-Hoc Access Point, since Ad-Hoc refers to peer-to-peer usage without Access Point. I think you are referring to an Infrastructure Network. And yes, there are advantages: you save the money for an extra AP and you can manage your wireless network at the same point like your LAN. Technically, there is not much difference since Access Point are basically constructed the same way, some of them are even running linux.

    2. No. The DWL-650+ uses a Texis Instruments (TI) Chipset. ASL does only support Intersil Prism2-based Chipsets, at least at the moment.

    3. Because there are so many cards and manufacturers, we have to rely on the chipset data. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but you have to check on the web pages of the specific manufacturer which chipset is used in their products. If we go shopping, we have the same problem, too [;)]
