Installation hangs at INIT

I'm attempting to upgrade my V3.xx to V4, and the CD hangs at init after booting the kernel OK. Hardware is a Micron Netframe3550 (Intel SDS2) with a single P3/1.3G, graphics ATI RAGE XL PCI, SCSI Adaptec AIC-7899W, nics are Intel Pro100 (builtin) plus some Siemens (Realtek) and 3com (3x9x5). Everything works fine with ASL3.x

    is there APIC enabled in the Bios? If so, please try disabling it... (feedback appreciated)

    Dell PowerEdge 600SC, 3 NIcs - built in Intel 1000 Pro, Intel 100 Pro and 3 Com 905x, IDE hard drive, 1 GB RAM - 3.2 would not recognize the built in NIC - suspect that it is newer than the drivers in 3.2 - 4 kept hanging - tried disabling all peripherrals - USB, serial port, parrallel port - no luck - APIC not an option - tried lots of options using BIOS -discovered a RAM option for OS install - limits RAM to 256 MB - re-enabled USB and selected this option (so I'm not 100% sure which fixed the problem) but I suspect it was the RAM setting - Version 4 installed without a hitch and recognized the built in NIC.  
    I don't know if your server has an option to limit available RAM for OS install and I don't see why limiting the RAM helped but I no longer hung just afte INIT.

    We also have a Netframe 3550 with the same basic configuration as you listed. As mentioned by Michael, the memory appears to be the stalling point with Astaro v4. My system was hanging at INIT until I read Michael's post. Though the Netframe doesn't have a handy BIOS feature like the Dell does that lets you force the system to use only XX amount of RAM (256MB in his case), the alternative for me was to yank out a couple of chips (bringing it down to 512MB - 256MB x 2) which allowed the Astaro v4 install to continue without a hitch. I had 1024MB installed, so it would be my best guess that Astaro cannot address memory over 512MB (though I do not have a couple 128MB chips to see if it can handle 768MB) during the install process. Once the install was completed, I simply threw my other two chips back in and went on about my business [:)]y endeavor.
