virtual ip adresses problem

Hi to all, I've a strange problem with an astaro 3.209. The problem is that some time in the day, I cannot reach my servers. On the internet side of the astaro I've installed 4 virtual ip's and the name I've given to those interfaces is eth3 eth4 and so on. To make my servers visibile to the internet I must change a virtual IP address back and forth. What can be the reason of this problem? Could it be the name of the virtual ip's or the model of the network card (REALTEK 8139)?.

    Hi romito,

    first, to clarify: I think what you want to have are alias interfaces; they can be given an IP address and reside physically on a configured hardware interface, hence they are (by the system) called eth0:1, eth0:2, eth0:n. eth3, eth4, ethn are different _physical_ interfaces. So I would advise you to call your alias interfaces by different names to make it more admin-friendly.

    So, if I understood you right you defined multiple alias interfaces on your external interface. What do you mean with "change a virtual IP back and forth" ? What do you exactly do to make your server reachable?

    With back and forth I mean that I change the ip value first to another and than to it's original ip. I think tha in this manner it resets somehow the virtual ip.
    You think that naming the interfaces eth3 eth4 and so on is only bad for admin pourposes and not for the system itself?

    My servers are reachable with a DNAT. Is it correct for you? Then I apply FW rules.

    OK,
    so you are using DNAT for a special IP address (configured on an alias interface) to a specific server on your DMZ. This works 90% of the day (random value - how often?), and then, suddenly, your servers cannot be reached any more? Is that right?

    The naming of the alias interfaces should cause no problems (except being irritating); the same for the hardware  [;)]s enabled).

    Hi thanks for the suggestions, I will check the console and the logs if this happens. So I can tall you what I can see.

    Hi perhaps I found the problem: the 2 nics where 2 Micronet with an 8139C chip. I've changed them with 2 Intel 10/100 Pro and the problem seems resolved. I wait till tomorrow.

    That was not the issue  [:(] 
    The true issue was (I hope): To make a DNAT to a inside server I made a rule 

    Any -> eth3_Interface__ / Any none dst

    and sometimes it had the problem discussed. Now I changed the rule to

    Any -> eth3_Interface__ / Any MASQ__eth0 dst

    Now the question is: why does the first rule function *sometimes* and not allways or never?
