Thanks for the reply Oliver, do you think that an alternative would be to simply add another nic card and reboot the machine. Will the firmware pickup an additional ethernet port over and above the max 3. I mean does the firmware support more than three networks (Private, External and DMZ) ?
after first installation ASL cannot autodetect any new hardware - you'd have to proceed as described above. The number of supported interfaces depends on your license. If you are a homeuser feel free to request a power home use license.
You can request this power home use license via our fax form on http://www.astaro.com [click "Licensing" in the menu]. Please make sure you enter your valid UBB Member Number. You do not have to order the Virus or Surf Protection option to receive the power home user license.
Thanks for the response. Actually you are right, I wasnt thinking about the fact that a new installation has to be done to detect the new hardware.
Just a hunch, let me know if I am wrong. How about if I add another card. Do a new installation. Define the new eth port with another ip address network. Then when I am running, simply restore the backup from a backup file. Do you think that would overwrite my new settings completey or would it let the new eth card be and simply add the old configuration to the old ones and also retain the new card since it was added in a new installation.
I would suggest (even though it should not make much difference) that if you wan't to re-install the system (after inserting new card), you should first import the backup from the old system, then config the new eth device.
Sorry long time since I replied. Mike what you are saying do you think it will let me do that? I may be wrong but arent I expected to reconfigure the new eth port on immed startup after putting in box? I am not sure if Astaro will automatically detect the hardware change. So for that i shall have no option but to reinstall the Astaro software so that it detects another additional card as compared to the previous config. Once I have specified the admin eth etc, i can then start up and try importing my saved backup.
However what I wasnt sure about was that since my backup was based on 'a one less' eth card then dont you think that it would confuse the firewall once the backup is imported and the configuration is based on 'x' amount of cards whereas the physical number of cards present in the box at that time would be 'x+1' ?
(However the alternative to all this is to update the relevant directory with the linux driver files in the shell mode...But I am just trying to find out if this problem can be overcome in GUI/Webadmin mode too or not).
