eth1 nic wont get dhcp request

i was wondering if there is a command to bring up the second (eth1) interface using dhcp from my isp. i tried ifconfig eth1 up, but that doesnt attempt to get an ip address from my isp. if i plug it (eth1-internet) in to the modem, and reboot, it stops eth0 (private) from starting. does anyone have any ideas. i have two 3-com 3c905 nic's.

maxcohen,

maybe a stupid question, but how did you configure
the interface?

Check the daemon logfile for "dhcp" and post some
more information!

thanks for your responses.

i just rebooted the modem and the firewall and reset the interface with the webadmin and it works fine now...seems to have been something silly!

With most cable providers, when you change the MAC address connected to the modem you have to reboot it. You probably used to have a PC plugged in then you put the firewall on there right?

With my cable ISP, you have to phone them the new MAC address, which they enter into something or other on their end. Simply rebooting your modem & PC after a NIC change won't work.
