Lex Light System.

Has anyone bought and used the Lex Light System using the VIA CV850A board? I'm looking to purchase this for the Astaro installation, but I don't want to spend $300 on the case, the board (which includes a PIII 800MHz class cpu), and 256MB of RAM.

I suspect that is would work. I've been doing some research, and the light system is just a mini-itx platform machine. I've seen other posts from users using mini-itx boxes for their Astaro implmentations.

IPCOP runs on a Lex Light, so I would suspect that Astro would too.

Please let us know how your install goes!!

Cool idea with one itty-bitty problem . . . How you gonna get a second NIC on it? According to the specs I see you have one ethernet integrated, but it takes at least two for a firewall. . . [:(]

If you can wait a bit, we'll support VLAN in the next release, making one-NIC firewalls possible.

However, you'll need a VLAN switch ($$$ !)

On the mini-itx systems there is one available PCI slot...you just add a NIC there. I'm planning on building an Astaro Box for a Harley-Davidson Dealer here in town. I'm planning on using a Red Box (neat huh?).

Just so you know, The mini-itx boxes work fine. I've install Astaro on the CheckerCube (mini-itx box) and it's working great!!!!

This is a great solution for building a small firewall.

btw: www.mini-itx.com has rack mount mini-itx cases that would be perfect for this. They're a little bit pricey, but if you're trying to build a professional looking firewall, there you go.

I have an Astaro running on a Shuttle PC where I put a D-LINK 580 card in the avalaible PCI slot. That gave me 5 NICs used for LAN, WAN, DMZ and Wi-Fi Network.
