Realtek 8139 NIC - unstable DSL connection

Chipset on these cards shows 8139D - this NIC is on the HCL as tested and supported.  I have these guys installed as the second NIC in some Dell systems that already have an integrated 3C905 controller (also tested and supported).  I am using the Realtek cards as the firewall's external interface, connected to SpeedStream 5360 ADSL modems; the 3Com controller is functioning as the internal interface.  I have the Realtek cards configured as pppoe interfaces and have gone into the Advanced parameters to set the bandwidth to 1492.  DSL connection is very unstable... the interface goes up and down for no apparent reason.  I can reset modem and Astaro box and connect fine for a few minutes, then lose service and see the interface is down.  The DSL light stays on solid, but the ethernet light blinks - slow on and off.  I am having the exact same problem at two different locations.  Looks like a problem with the ethernet connection, but I haven't had a chance to try a different card in the two boxes that are configured with the Realtek cards.  I have a third location that is configured with a second 3COM card that's been rock solid.  Same modem, same DSL provider, same integrated NIC.  Ethernet light stays on steady at that location.  Has anyone else had any experience using these cards or seen this type of behavior with any other supported NICs?  I need to get these sites up and working ASAP.

    dont use QOS on ADSL interfaces.. it wont work..
    set it on internal NIC..
    it's bug in astaro..
    nothing wrong with NIC.

    I was able to fix this problem by reinstalling Astaro and making the integrated 3COM card the external interface for the DSL connection, and the add-in Realtek 8139 card the internal interface for my LAN.  Don't know why that fixed it, but it's working like a champ now.  Just FYI.

    I do have exact the same symptoms on my firewall with theese Realtek 8139 cards installed. Am going to try different NIC from 3com.
    Let you know what happens.

    Problem verification - more issues with Realtek 8139 NICs.  Don't know why, but they're buggy as hell when used with Astaro.  Fixed one gateway by moving the Realtek NIC to the internal interface, and using the integrated 3com NIC as the external gateway.  Tried this on another system (after having the same problem trying to update to 3.209 - I suspect it was because the connection kept dropping on the DSL line, preventing the update from ever completing), and even reinstalled Astaro from scratch to change the management interface.  I could not even connect to it through a browser.  My advice - DO NOT BUY REALTEK NICS TO USE ON YOUR ASTARO FIREWALL!!!

    Just my 2 cents on the Realtek cards, I have 3 in my ASL External Lan and DMZ and have been running for a month like this and haven't had a problem yet, now I don't have DSL or ADSL I have Cable. So it isn't PPPoe, could it be a PPPoe problem not a problem with the cards? I have used these cards on everything linux I use and have not once had a problem they have been rock solid with out a hitch since day one. some are 2 years old. And at 8 bucks that is great..

    All I am saying is maybe the problem isn't the cards but something else.
