2nd NIC Problem

I have:

DECchip 21142/43 and 82557/8/9 [Ethernet Pro 100].

On bootup, I see both nics lights turn on..  The LAN one flashes momentarily, and the WAN one (DECchip) goes out and will not come back.  Webadmin reports it as DOWN.  I hooked up only the WAN adapter, and it did get an IP.  I've tried rebooting also.  I should need NO cfg'n JUST to get it to show as "up" correct?

This is pretty much, install, reboot, add pass's, add eth1 (WAN), set as dynamic for all, and nuthin'.  Reports as "down".  No amt of waiting changes anything.

Its a P2-450/128meg ram.  With ATTBI as provider.

If needed I can post the kernel logs/etc..

I'm having the same problem i am using somthing that IS on the HCL though, and I can't get the outside WAN card to come "up" I am using two realtek 8139 cards and tried a windows installation to make sure that my cards wern't broken, they work fine, I am using a cable modem and and have tried reseting it as well.. also some of my more linux-friendly friends have tried "turning the card to on" or "up" from the root shell this also doesn't work. During installation ASL 3.2 recognizines both cards I am thinking that this is a setup problem(?) ((I hope)) I am using a Cyrix motherboard and chip could this be a problem???

I am also having a problem with the Realtek 2189 cards. I am using these as the external interface on DSL connections. I've had problems with the interface staying up and passing traffic reliably. I've got another system with two 3COM cards in it working fine. Any ideas? Any one? TIA...

Prob solved.

I had an onboard one, which also used the same driver as one of the one's I added. I disabled the onboard, and it worked like a charm.
