Hangs on Step 8: Verifying Checksums

Hi! 

I was trying to install on a Dell Dimension L566cx, with four 3com nics. Everything is detected, everything works, as it works with other Linux distros.

However, when the installer gets to Step 8: where it actually erases the hard drive and starts installing, it just hangs. It hangs at the very beginning where it seems to be evaluating the 'checksums' of the software. 

Is there something I need to do to keep this from happening?  It does this on two separate machines, one is all SCSI and the other is all IDE, the one I'm mentioning here.

    Try d/l and burning another install CD.
    Sounds like a dud cd

    For what it's worth, I had a similar problem.  On installation I was getting a long pause at "Verifying Package Checksums" that finally got marked FAILED.

    I knew it wasn't the CD, because I'd installed from the disk many times.  But I did suspect the CD-Rom drive (I'd had problems with it in another machine).  I replaced the CD-Rom drive and ran the installation again.  This time there was no problem.
