Strange Install/Restore Problem

G'Day... I have a strange one.

I am building a new ASL box, so I have put the cards in, and given the machine a temporary IP address so that I can get it started, and up to 3.202. 

Then I tell it to upload the config file from the other ASL box. That is where it hits a snag...

NONE OF THE SETTINGS ARE BEING IMPORTED

That is right, none. The IP addresses are not being set up. Nothing. Something is strange here. 

The /var/log/mdwlog has lots of lines saying 
   Use of uninitialized value in string eq at modules/License.pm line 654.

I dont know if that is related... 

It is as if it is ignoring the request to import. 

Questions:
1. Does the license number need to be entered to import a backup
2. Do the interfaces need to be set up with dummy values (apart from the first port) to be able to import a backup
3. Can the import change the IP of a port?
4. Can I have different ethernet card types when I restore?

This is really concerning me, since I had assumed that it would be simple to get ASL to run if I lost a machine. Now I am not so sure.

    hmm.. i havent had a problem and have duplicated many different machines with different hardware configurations (that is different Processor or Memory and so on) using 3.2xx.

    Questions:
    1. Does the license number need to be entered to import a backup

    No

    No

    Yes

    4. Can I have different ethernet card types when I restore?

    err.. maybe, Yes.  I have mixed and matched cards from Intel, 3Com, and Dlink without problems.

    Maybe there is a hardware problem with the box... Something for me to look at

    G'Day Again. Things are not looking good. I think that there is some major bug in 3.202.

    1. Install 3.200.
    2. create packet filter rules
    3. restore my 3.202 backup (which only restores signature in the /etc/wfe/conf dir)
    4. Attempt to create packet filter ruls
         it says OK. But then the rules are not added

    I have tried this with two different machines.

    This seems like a MAJOR problem to me.

    Darryl,

    first run up2date to version 3.202, enter the
    license key and now import the backup!

    If that doesn't work w'd like to have a look
    at you backup file!
