Cable Mode / DHCP / NIC Problem

I was switching from a D-Link DFE-550TX to a 3Com 905C-TX-M and suddenly my cable modem could not access anything.  It seems that the 3Com could not get an address via DHCP.  I tried 2 other known good 3com cards and none of them worked.  I placed the D-Link back in and everything worked fine. Any ideas?

    Have you changed the kernel modules?

    Try first to set a static IP (this to see if the
    nic is detecred by the kernel), then switch
    back to dhcp.

    It could also be that most cable modems cache the MAC of the network cards in use behind it.

    Usually when switching network cards, unless you have subscribed to more than one IP address from your ISP, you must reset the power to the modem to clear the cache.

    The cards worked fine when I placed a static IP address on them.

    After unpluging the cable modem for about a minute, I tried it with another computer w/ a different nic card.  It works fine.  I'll never forget to do power it down for awhile if I have to move it again.  Thanks for the replies.
