Is the astaro firewall performance depend more so on CPU speed or memory?  We were wondering if our Celeron 600 with 256megs of memory is enough for our environment.  We have a full T1-connection with both internal LAN and DMZ.  If we need to upgrade, which area will give us more bang for the buck (CPU speed or memory)?

I have run ASL on PII 233 with 128Mb Ram and it 
was enought for dial-up connection and no services.
I think that the power needed from ASL depend
by the services you want run in it(VPN etc....).

I am using ASL 3.202.
Service PPTP and soon VPN insted of pptp.
I have 20 packet rules.
I think i will increase the RAM from 64 to 256 !  

I use a PIII733 with 128 Mb of RAM.
To my knowledge, the CPU is doing almost nothing (week average 4%, maximum 9%) but memory usage is all the time at 90% or higher (average 100MB).

So I thing I'll conclude that RAM is more important than CPU.

The only time I got a High CPU usage was when I created a key for VPN.

Do the speed of the hard drive has any impact on overall performance?  I am using an older (2 years old or so) IBM 9.0g Drive.  I was thinking of upgrading its to a WD 7200RPM 20G.  Does anyone has any number they can share on ow much log information one can keep per gig of hard drive space?

Concerning diskspace, I use a 20GB disk and it does seems to be large enough.

I do not use http cache for the moment!

Concerning speed... No idea yet but I always use 7200 rpm types

I use a PII-266, 64MB RAM, 2.5 GB HDD. No HTTP proxy. it works fine. I get 6+Mbps through-put to a single FTP server in DMZ. I have about 30 rules + masq + DNAT. I have thought about going to a P3-500 machine, but why? This is for personal home use. I have 2-3 machine running behind it and a mail/FTP/time server running on the DMZ. All connected with a 1500/128 ADSL.

I'm running my ASL 3.x on a P2-350 with 6GB disk and 256MB RAM. I have noticed that it's quite a bit more demanding than it's predecessor in the memory department. 
With SMTP proxy enabled,

I'm running Astaro an a P233 with 192MB RAM and 4GB HDD.
AdminPages are lil slow (5-10sec for a page) but it works just fine.   [:)]  
(I#, not using any Proxie features.)

I have a P120 (hehe without MMX) with 64MB, 3.5GB hard drive for home use connected to a ADSL line running 3.202.

I also have an internal Mail Server (proxied) and a permenent VPN (RSA) connection running.

works like a champ.  no lag on anything.
