3.2 install probs

There is an up2date coming out that can boost your install from final 2.XXX version to 3.2

Not sure if you can restore a backup configuration to 3.2 from earlier version, somehow I doubt it.

I have the same problem.  I have 2 systems that I cannot get 3.2 to install. They are both PII 400 systems with BX chipset.  I have tried different RAM, NIC's, HDD with no luck.  It always hangs right at the Hardware detection. 2.025 ran fine on this hardware.  What gives?????

You might want to try disabling USB support in the BIOS of the machine (sometimes labelled "Assign IRQ to USB"). I've found several recent Linux distros (Mandrake, SuSE, etc as well as ASL) that have hung at a similar place.

FWIW, I have as much disabled as possible on my ASL box - no USB, no serial, no parallel... I even disable the second IDE channel once installation has completed. That way you gain a bit of performance (as each NIC gets it's own IRQ) and power saving...

ALright this is a little ridiculous.  3.2 will not install on 4 out of 5 systems I have tried it on.  There is obviously something wrong here.  Here is the list of my systems:

1) Tyan VIA Apollo Pro 133A 512MB RAM 1Ghz PIII 20GB HDD

2) Shuttle MK20 VIA PLE133 256MB 600Mhz Duron 15 GB HDD

3). Intel SE440BX PII 450 256MB 15GB HDD

4).  GigaByte GA6-BXDS PII 450 256 MB 10GB SCSI HDD

I have disabled everything in the BIOS that isn't essential including Serial ports, USB, and Parallel port.  If have tried BIOS defaults.  These were all systems that ran LINUX of Windows just fine before I attempted this install.  Oh yeah, NIC's are all Realtek 8139's or Intel PRO 100+.  I have tried multiple downloads of the ISO, from 2 locations and burned the disc on 2 computers.  What gives???  How am I supposed to try and push this product as a security solution when I can't even get it to run properly????

Lets get some help here Astaro.  If I wasn't in need of DHCP support, I would stick with 2.0.  BTW, the one box I did get 3.2 to install on craps out constantly, especially the VPN.

3.2 iso doesn't boot, and up2date from 2.025 to 3.2 doesn't work either.

Any suggestions?

Similar problem here - the install was hanging on the hardware detection phase. 

I tried just about every BIOS setting available - no result.

Changed the NICs - no result

Changed the video card - and it works now.
The old card was a S3 (Trio 64V+) PCI card with a V1.1 BIOS and it just would NOT allow the detection phase to work. A low end Matrox (AGP) solved the problem.

I'm sure I'm using one of those cards in my machine.  Will check and report back.

please,could you and try to install ASL 3.200 
with net-cards INTEL PRO 100+ ?
I think are better for ASL Kernel.

I've found its always a good idea on the machine you are going to install your firewall onto, is go into the bios before you start the install and disable every bit of hardware you know you are not going to need on the firewall, this then leaves you with the maximum amount of IRQ's and memory addresses for your hardware, and makes the box more secure as well.

Here is a brief list of what I disable:

USB
Sound
floppy
parallel ports
serial ports
mouse port (if you have the option)
any unused IDE ports
any shadowing/caching

It might help with some people having trouble installing, but I believe its a good idea anyway.
