Astaro on Dell Poweredge 1650

Good afternoon. 

I've been using Astaro for a while now, it's an excellent product. However, I'm having problems installing on a new firewall machine. It's a Dell Poweredge 1650, with a Dell PERC 3/Di RAID controller. This RAID controller has a different PCI ID to previous PERC controllers. When I install redhat in similar machine, I need to pass paramters to the aacraid.o module, something like:

aacraid_pcccids=0x1028,0x0A,0x1028,0x011B

This fixes my problem on redhat. However, I'm wondering is it possible to do something similar on astaro. I see there is an entry in /usr/share/pci.lst on the install media (when I drop to a shell after the install fails), but there is not an entry in /usr/share/pci.ids to match. I can't edit these, since the install filesystem is on the CD, instead of a ramdisk as is usual with other distros  [:)] .

I am using 2.016 at the moment. I don't want to have to download a lter version unless I know it works. So, my basic questions are:

1. Do later versions support the passing of module paramters, and loading of additional modules before probing for hardware?

2. Does a later version recognise the PERC 3/Di RAID controller by default?

    Hello,

    Adaptec RAID controllers are still not supported, sorry. We'll include support of these cards in one of next ASL releases.

    Not sure if this will help or not, but this site is maintained by Dell Linux support staff.  It's an un-official site, but it has helped me get my 6300's working with several versions of Linux..

    Excellent. Thanks for the swift and useful replies. I had a feeling the RAID controller wasn't supported. I removed the ROMB card, and the SCSI backplane took over, and Astaro recognises it find now.

    Except...It doesn't Recognise my two Intel 82544EI Gigabit Ethernet Cards. Since I'm not sure if I want to go to 3.x -just- yet, is there a HCL for the latest 2.x releases? Do the latest 2.x support this chipset? Also, do they support the 82543GC chipset?

    I can't find the 2.x HCL anywhere, as it appears to have disappeared from the site.

    I want to say GigE support is optional. 

    BTW, why go with such extensive hardware? We're using two Dell PowerEdge 350's and they're working great! One with 6 ports (2 builtin + a 4port card) and another with 4 ports (2builtin + a 2 port card). Because the hardware is more mainstreamed (BX chipset, IDE drives), there's less chance for incompatability.

    It was part of a batch of acquired servers, I want to maintain similarity of hardware. I also want Gigabit Ethernet, since my Private network and DMZ will be using it internally, and it's quite possible that colocation will use GigE in its facility. There#s a lot of DMZPrivate traffic, and I on't want to go to the trouble of upgrading to GigE in a few years if I have the cards right now  [:)]
