install problems

I was just asked today by management to download and install this software and I don't know anything about it so please bare with me.  I have downloaded the asl-2.016.iso file and burnt it to a cd.  Then booted the computer with the cd that I just burnt but nothing happens.  One very important question that I could not find on the website is whether or not I need to have some version of linux already loaded.  Please help

    You do not need any pre-installation of Linus.

    If you can boot from the CD, try creating boot  floopy disk and used it together with the CD.  There instruction on how to create it on the manual which should be in the CD you just created.

    If this does not work, the problem might the CD was not well created.

    I really think that is the problem.  The first time that I created the CD it was nothing but the .iso file but I just downloaded a tool to extract the .iso file.  It didn't say anything on the website about extracting the .iso file first though so I don't know what I am doing.

    I am now having a similar problem with the beta version 3.050.  The system is just rebooting itself without any installation. The rebooting occurs once it gets to "Loading ramdisk......."

    I however observed that the problem is on some particular system. But what I do not understand is why the beta 3.050 is causing problem since I was able to install version 2.0 and beta 3.040 on the same system without any problem.

    What could be going wrong.

    You need software capable of recongnizing the ISO file and burning it.  Simply burning the ISO file to a CD (like a copy operation) will not work.

    Get CDRWin, Nero or Adaptec EZ CD Creator.
    You need to find the section in the software to burn an ISO type file.  Do that and burn the image and your disk should then work.

    Do not extract the ISO files to disk and then burn them !
