Performance Issues

I'm using a PII-300 with 256MB RAM w/ 2 3COM 905B NIC cards. I'm using IP Masquerading to translate internal private IP's to the external public IP. I'm also using DNAT for inbound request translation for DNS, HTTP, FTP, POP3, SMTP, and SSH. I have about 35 internal machines that have internet access. about 5-6 times a day the Masquerading droppes out and I no longer have internet access for a few minutes. The logs say I'm only using about 180MB of memory and the CPU utilization averages 37%, once in a while is spikes to 73%. Is the machine not powerful enough to handle this type of configuration? I also have PSD enabled and to reject all PSD packets and ICMP forwarding is disabled. When I do a Portscan on the external side, I don't have any internet access until the PS is done. Just wondered if anyone else has noticed this?

Make sure:

1. PSD isn't monitoring the internal network
2. You don't have DMZ and Intranet NIC's plugged into the same network device (causes traffic storms)

How do I make sure that PSD isn't monitoring the internal Network? and if it is, how do I stop it?

In the Packet Filter setting, you can tell it to ignore certain networks. Just make sure it is ignoring your LAN
