New Install IP cannot be reached

I have just finished the initial configuratiion of Astaro and have logged in. I gives my internal IP which I have placed within the same subnet as my default network until I can reconfigure at a later time. When I try to ping any machine on the network they are unreachable. Astaro will only ping itself. 

Any questions or ideas as to why this is happening? I have changed out the cables and I have connection lites on the hub...but no ping.

What am I missing? I have even placed both cards on the network to ensure that I am pinging the right card.

    You should check the gateway.

    My default gateway (to the router) is 192.168.0.254

    But once installation is done and the machine reboots, the gateway (ifconfig as root) shows .255!

    What the jimmy is up with that?

    Oh ya, can't ping, can't login, cant https....same issues.

    Hell, I even removed one of the nic's just to make sure my dumbass wasn't connecting cables incorrectly.

    I've tried straight-cable, regular cable, crossover, pixy-dust-magical-beans-cable...everything.

    I'm missing something here.

    Oh ya, any way to change the gateway from the shell?

    @LanZilla: ASL 3.040 (or was it 3.030?) sometimes asigns the first IP to the wrong interface. I had the same problem - my solution was to change the NICs order in my PC, but you have already checked this... by the way: you shouldn't connect both interfaces to the same network at the same time, that does not work - maybe this is the error.
    Another bug I saw is that ASL changed my subnet-mask ?!? I really don't know why?

    Thanks for your suggestions. I have reinstalled with separate IP schemes, ensuring that it was on the correct subnet and network. I am still not able to connect in any way to the listed IP address. It can, of course, ping itself but no other IP.

    I have no clue as to why this would be so difficult. IP is IP, right? You have an address, regardless of the subnet, you should be able to ping it, or ping out from it.

    I don't get it. Any other suggestions?

    whatever!!!

    I changed one of my other machine's IP to ONE above the IP given to the ASTARO box. I can now ping it but not connect via browser.

    Still working at it. Pop me a suggestion if you can.

    Please describe the IP-Address scheme with subnet-masks that you use (on ASL and the other PCs)

    IP Scheme for internal network is as follows:

    IP Address = 192.168.1.155
    netmask =    255.255.255.240

    Is that the IP you use on your ASL-box? Which IPs do you use within your LAN ?

    Maybe you have problems with auto-negotiation on your ASL-NIC oder Hub/Switch ?

    I don't know if you guys remember but they had a program here in the states called RIF. Reading Is Fundamental.

    I always have to keep that in mind and it becomes evident when you try to speed along. 

    For two days what I thought was http://192.168.2.42 was actually httpS://192.168.2.42. The "S", of course, makes all the difference...

    I feel really silly for garnering your support but I want you to know that I do sincerely appreciate all of your efforts to resolve MY mistake.

    Argh!

    Ok, Reading is Fundamental isn't the case here.

    The bloody machine just cannot be pinged any way, any how. It's crap.

    The install seems to go perfectly fine. The only thing I'm worried about is I removed the second nic, so there's only one physical nic in the box, yet modprobe eth1 works! Where the hell is eth1 (good lord, if eth1 is the physical nic, and eth0 is some floating virtual phantom bullshizz I'll scream - again!)...

    ifconfig eth0 shows all the right info, minus the broadcast (which of course sets itself to .255). ifconfig eth1 shows crap. nothing. zip. dill. ding-ding.

    I'm gonna go home now. Think I'll have a beer or nine, and watch some stupid movie - maybe embrace of the vampire (alyssa milano).  My only saving grace is my girlfriend likes the mild porn stuff, so no matter how bad the movie was, the mild dirty stuff will make the world ok.

    It won't fix the Astaro box, but I'm beginning to think nothing will.

    I'm new within ASTARO but as network consultant working a long perjod with TCP/IP.
    do you remember, what kind of setting you've done in Astaro?
    Your Problem is eventually that you verbidden all ICMP traffic in and out and now you can't..

    You are using a class C address and are spacing it in totally 14 subnets with a total of not more than 14 hosts per subnet (even if you are using only 1 subnet)
    So you gave IP as 192.168.1.155 and Mask as 255.255.255.240
    In this case, will be:
    Network:  192.168.1.144 (not! usable for  hosts)
    1st IP:  192.168.1.145
    last IP: 192.168.1.158
    Broadcast: 192.168.1.159

    Totally verbidden in your internal LAN are also:
    (These numbers are subnet adresses):
    all Ip ending with: 16,32,48,64,80,96,112,128, 160,176,192,208,224
    and their Broadcast Adr:
    31, 47,63,79,95,111, 127,143,175,191,207,223
    and naturally class C "Borders" 0 and 255

    Please check if any of above adr. are assigned. Some MS  implementations don't care about and it works...but only in MS Island.
