Slow ASL

I just installed 2.023 on my computer and it is going really slow with continuous hard drive useage with and without the http proxy.  What could be causing this?

The computer is a PII 400 with 64MB ECC Ram, and a 2.5GB Hard drive.

The hard drive light is staying lit continuously and I believe this could be part of the problem.  It takes about a minute to load a web site, and about 14 to 20 seconds to send my roomate a message over AOL.  (He is outside of the firewall.)  Thank you.

    login as user root and check which process causes
    the trouble: "ps axwfu | less -S" will be helpfull.

    Ok, here is the output of that command.  The hard drive is no longer continuously active, but, it is still taking quite a while to load web pages.  It is the firewall itself because even just loading the WebAdmin pages takes forever.  Thank you.
