Subnet Mask

Hi, sorry for the following question...  [:)]

i installed the firewall and everything is now okay.

but during the configuration i tried to set my network cards like this:

Intarnet: eth0:
IP: 10.0.0.254
Mask: 255.255.255.0

Internet: eth1: 217.146.134.130
Mask: 255.255.255.224 (Router)

DMZ: eth2: 217.146.134.132
Mask: 255.255.255.228

now the firewall told me, that the netmask of eth2 doesn't fit with the ip address. (I tried 255.255.255.255, it was ok). Now my question. Why?? How does the Netmasks work??

Today i want to install an windows 2000 Server in the DMZ with the following option:

IP: 217.146.134.133
Mask: 255.255.255.255

Now my 2000 told me that 255.255.255.255 doesn't fit

What is my mistake?

Thx for help...

Dennis

  • LetZ,

I assume DMZ network mask was a typing error, 228
    isn't possible.
And further I assume you want to split your
given network 217.146.134.128/27 into two networks.
For the external interface you could use
    217.146.134.130/255.255.255.240 for the DMZ
interface you have to use an address of the second
    network which is 217.146.134.144/255.255.255.240.

If you don't want to change the routers configuration
you have to enable proxy arp on the external interface!

    Hope I could help
