Linux newbie

Hello everyone I'm extremely new to linux.  I have a ps I want to setup as my firewall.  I have downloaded asl 2 and installed it with no problems other than I'm on a cable dchp isp.  I found on this forum a file to modify some settings to hopefully fix this.  My problem is since I'm clueless on what to do with the files can someone please tell me what I need to do?  Thanks
