    Ok, unless I've missed out on something really essential here, how can you recommend this micio?

    As far as I'm concerned, it's not possible to recompile and get a working Astaro kernel due to the fact that the kernel config file is not released from Astaro.

    Please don't hesitate telling me why I'm wrong if that is the situation here.

    I have recompiled certain kernel modules by using the astaro pluspack as well as a copy of the relevant (2.4.8) kernel tree.
    If you do a kernel recompile without knowing what Astaro has put in their kernel config I suspect that you at best may have a few vital functions disabled, and at worst your system will not function properly at all.

    Just trying to put things into perspective and as always - I am prepared to take heat if I'm totally off my mark here.

    wanted to ask, if it is possible to get the kernel-conf file, because i want to update it to the newest 2.4.kernel...

    hi all,

    there were many postings (and answers !) in this forum. markus (astaro) said, that astaro won't release the kernel config file. this discussion comes up every 2 or 3 months - but i don't think that you will have success in getting this file.
