LCD-display

A LCD display is necesary only for boxes that have no console at all, (Sun Cobalt for example). The LCD ticker shows some status informations such as system load, uptime, IP, hostname etc. If you have a PC with a console, you don't need such thing.

It's shure possible to build an own circuit, but you have to write own driver too, before you can use it  [;)]

Displays with the Hitachi HD44780 chip can be wired directly to the parallel port, but i don´t know if Astaro will support it.

Check out the Paralell driver for the Hitachi LCD's... I suspect that ticker.pl listens for TCP data and sends it to the LCD, just like the HITACHI driver... One for hackers :-)

Sorry, I would like to know the LCD manufacturer name, not the system that it comes with. This way you can add your own LCD to your computer.

   I need a little help.  I am trying to integrate an LCD panel into my product. I found an LCD module that can interface directly to the parallel port, on the back of PC. It is my understanding that Astaro supports this right out of the box.

The LCD manufacturer provides pin out schematics for connecting the LCD module to Parallel Port.

However, they CAN NOT tell me what pin on an LCD module corresponds to what pin on parallel port without knowing the actual application that the LCD is being used for.  They said they need to know how the software addresses the LCD module via Parallel Port.

I would like to quote their response:
"Yes, you can use the computer to drive the module directly, but it depends on how you will set up the parallel port.  Since we have no idea how you will design your program to send the
information through the print port, we are unable to advise how you will connect the module to the computer pin to pin. Generally speaking, you connect the pin of the module to the parallel port which can provide the signal to meet the pin
assignment.

For example, pin 7 of the module is "external clock input", and you should know which pin from the parallel port can provide the colic input to pin 7."

Please provide me with schematic on how Astaro writes to Parallel Port, based on requirements above!

On the same note, Is the Parallel Port setup as a Standard (SPP) or Enhanced (EPP) port?

Please help.
