RealTek 8129: ASL fails to find kernel module

Tried to install ASL 2.0.14 on a old PC with a single ethernet card for testing. Installation halts with the 'no network cards detected' error and drops to shell. lspci says that there is a

00:14.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RT8129

but in the /tmp/install.log I found

hardware_nic_detect: missing NIC module rtl8129

The module is indeed not in /lib/modules. I realize that the 8129 is not something you would want to use in a production firewall. I was simply trying to install ASL to see what it is like. Nevertheless, shouldn't the 8129 be handled by the 8139too kernel module? I gather the 8129 driver is obsolete and ASL should not be trying to load it. Correct?
