Astaro 1.824 to current, what are my chances of success?

I've been using astaro linux for a while now and have updated succesfully to 1.824 without having to touch the box physically. the box is miles away, protecting a private mail/web server and a quake1 server we use for fun.

hardware is min spec, 350Mhz 2gig HDD and quad network card (Digital Equipment Corporation DECchip 21142/43)

I've had a few problems with the web admin not responding and ps on the command line hanging, and not being able to reboot without power cycling the machine remotely, and the box always seems to recover.

But now i think it's time to move up a step, and make the big jump to version 2 and above.

here is my simple question.

what are my chances of success?
should i wait until i can make the journey to the computer and be ready with the old boot cd, or can i risk a auto up2date?

I would say: 90% success...
* no tulip card
* 1.824 is not far away from 2.0 (calculating the sum of the up2date announces: 20MB)

But i would enable SSH before the up2date starts ;-)

SSH is on, but if the machine doesn't reboot properly after the update, SSH will be no good.
What could likely go wrong in the update procedure?
