I am using a 200MMX with 192M RAM (about 150M free at all times  [:)]sk.
The average cpu utilization is 15% average with peaks to 50% during the last three months.

I use this with a one Mbit SDSL, two servers and a handfull of clients. Now also using smtp proxy.
IF you intend on using the proxies and/or VPN, you may need to get some more power behind your ASL.

The encryption and decryption of keys for vpn takes up resources. ipsec with 3des uses alot of power that is why i was wondering if asl supports any hardware encrypt/decrypt products that would take the load off the cpu. One way to speed things up a little for smaller systems (home users and small business) would be to have asl, during inital install, set aside a user pre-defined amount of ram. EX. say you system has 256 meg of ram. the asl during install could ask you how much ram you want to dedicate to vpn tasks. you could say 56meg and everytime asl boots it strips 56meg away, loads it and mounts it as a virtual drive(ram drive) since the drive is solid state the speed for encrypt/decrypt should improve.

Thanks for the info guys. I may give it a whirl then. I'm using Mandrake SNF at the moment. One of the main features I need is good nat/masq type support for users behind the firewall on private network. I assume astaro will give me this?

If you need H.323 masq you may run into problems.

Mandrake SNF was terrible its Masq worked like hell.  I always had problems with it trying to open ports correctly and a lot of the times it wouldn't translate the outgoing packet.  I and a few other admins had the same problem.  Thats how I ended up here

and I am not going anywhere for a while =)

Sounds good then! Did you try things like Netmeeting through it?
I'd like that to work if possible?

There is no H.323 support in ASL right now... Netmeeting (among a few) won't work.

I hope Astaro will fix this in the upcoming version.

...As I'm sure everyone is aware, there is no H.323 connection helper for IPTables yet, therefore support for it in Astaro is beyond the Astaro deveoplment team.

The IPTables development team is in full swing and as a result the Netfilter mailing list is VERY active with advanced usage of IPTables.
