Mail setup

I have set up Astaro successfully, but I do not intend to use the SMTP-proxy.

Instead I wish to continue handling mail on a Linux mailserver located in DMZ.

This far, I have not found any place to setup Astaro in a way that allows mail to be dispatched through an external mail-server. In other words, I do not get mails sent by Astaro because it does not know of the mail server in charge of the domain.

Any hints on how this can be solved?

    Hi Thomas,

    In your situation, ASL doesn't need to know who is sending mail to where. All you have to do is add appropriate rules to enable your mail server to receive SMTP on port 25 and send SMTP on ports 1025 and up.

    Define a network like this:
    Mail Server - Your Server IP - 255.255.255.255

    Then add 2 rules to the firewall:
    Any - SMTP - Mail Server - Allow
    Mail Server - SMTP - Any - Allow

    My original question may not have been as precise at it should have been:

    Astaro will send mail to me as the system administrator - for instance automated mails with a backup-file attached.

    If Astaro does not know what MX to use in order to forward the mail to me - it will simply not arrive at the right place, and the Qmail logs tell me that  mails are bouncing internally as they never reach their receiver and the system keeps trying to send it anyway.

    There seems to be no setup options in WebAdmin to fix this, but I may of course tweek the settings manually by logging in to a shell and modifying Qmail's setup. However, even though this would work - it is not a very "pretty way" of doing things....

    Hello Thomas,

    ASL should be able to deliver mails to all mailservers known in the internet. If you have a "private" domain with an internal nameserver, ASL is not able to resolv the private domain and also cannot get any MX records.
    Just use an "official" domain name in your mailaddress, or add your internal nameserver as forwarder to /var/chroot-bind/etc/named.conf
