We've recently set up an ASL 2.0 box to protect our standalone webserver at an ISP location.
After initial hookup, I went back home to configure the rules, DNAT, etc. After about 8 hours, it suddenly blacked out on me, refusing any and all communication attempts (not explicitly refusing, just no answer).
After a power cycle of the machine, ASL came back up and worked like a charm again.. for about 18 hours =( Now it's dead again.
I've found references here on the board to a problem with RealTek ethernet hardware, of which we have two in our ASL box. The posts did not mention exactly what the problem with RealTek hw is, or what symptoms we'd see if we come across it.
Q:
Would it be a good idea to grab two 3com cards and go out there to swap adapters? One of the RealTek NICs is and on-board NIC on the mainboard of the PC, so I can't remove it. I'm afraid that the two new adapters would get different interface numbers so I'd have to reinstall ASL to make it work..
Another question (maybe not for this forum)
Where would I find information pertinent to the "hang"? What logfiles, etc would be most likely to contain useful clues as to what state the firewall is in?
Any help and suggestions is greatly appreciated, thanks.
