Unable to install ASL2 on Cobalt RaQ3i

Hi,

I'm having a strange problem installing ASL2 on a Cobalt RaQ3i. Everything seems to work fine, it installs via the network, it configures correctly, it shuts down the services and then it should tell me that I should turn off the Cobalt. But what happens is that it reboots after completion (and it tells me so) and then it says "Loading kernel..." and after a short time the display shows "Booting...". And that's it. Now I can wait... It does not show the passwords, it does not ask for the ip adress, it simply sits there and waits. And there is not even any hard disk activity.
Any ideas? Is there a way to monitor what's happening inside?

    Hi there,

    just for my understanding:
    Running 1.804 on Cobalt RaQ3i.
    When the expected Up2Date packages are out, can i update via the Up2Date process, or do i first have to update some hardware-things on the Cobalt ??

    Hi again,

    I just wiped the HD because I thought this might be a good idea (fdisk+mke2fs). Then I deleted all partitions, started the installation and now I get another message: "ERROR1 making /dev/hda7". After a short time the installation shuts down all services and reboots the Cobalt. This is the same for ASL2 and for ASL 1.8. The HD is ok because I just installed a SuSE linux on it. Now I'm stuck. What's going on here? It is a standard RaQ3i w/ 192MB & 13G HD.
    Any ideas?

    Hello,

    I found some strange things regarding the console output of the cobalt and the installation of ASL 1.8/2.0.

    Installation:

    console    off      on       no device at cons     device at cons
               fail     fail     fail                  success

    Running ASL on Cobalt:

    console    off               on
               does not boot     boots up
    (no need for a device at console; 2.0 does not boot, rom bios?)

    That's it so far.

    Hello !

    I tried to update the flash rom using ASL 1.800 and the "flashtool".  But the flashtool wants to open /dev/mem and there is no /dev/mem.  Hmmm...
    Any alternatives or ideas?

    use this flash tool.
    But be aware:
    DUE THIS UPDATE YOU COULD IRREPARABLE DAMAGE THE HARDWARE!
     
    THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY, USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!
     
    After this update you can install ASL 2.0 on your RaQ3. ASL 2.0 will not work on Cube3!!!

    Hello,

    you've moved ASL2 for Cobalt to a directory called 'untested'.  Hmmmm...  Mrs. Schaepers told me that the file cobalt-2.000.iso.gz would be the final version.
    What about the status of this version?

    The announcement for the Cobalt users was telling the Update for Mid-September.
    Now it's Mid-November !!

    I found several topics for that theme

    but everywhere is told about 'untested' version, necessary 'flash eprom' and whatever.

    One of my customers is waiting very urgent for Roadwarrior Support and i told him, that it would be available about the beginning of October.

    Now, i have no more arguments.

    Please post any statement about the availability of ASL2.x for the Sun machines.

    I think they are no good choice, because they are not very well supported.

    Just found Markus ACK in the General Discussion Forum.

    So let's see how far is 'not far awy' this time...

    But anyhow for future installations i will prefer PC machines.
