I might be crucifying myself and any chance of getting any help here, but I can't let this one go by without saying something.
I've been running ASL 1.84/5 for many months now with no problems, and I got a little impatient waiting for the 2.0 Up2Date, so I decided to wipe it out and start over.
I solved the no active partition problem without too much thought, but it is nearly a week later and DOZENS of wipes/installs and I am no closer to getting it working. After several tries with my recent tulip based cards, I finally thout I had found a combo that worked: a NatSemi NIC and my trusty 3COM EtherLink III. After installing ASL, I went to my Win box to ping it and see that it was there before restoring from my backup. I got one reply and then it went dead. So I rebooted and prayed. I thought I might find something useful in the Kernel log. This is what I found:
"Sep 26 03:22:43 asl kernel: eth0: Something Wicked happened! 18000."
"Sep 26 03:23:05 asl last message repeated 15 times"
etcetera, etcetera...
I think I am going back to my ASL 1.8x until someone pulls their head out of their a** the problems in 2.0.
Just my $2.00...
In case you were looking for a question it is this: "What happened to my NIC?"
