after install ASL 2.0 / "no active primary partion"

hi,

when rebooting the system after completely installing ASL 2.0 it stops with error message: "no active partion". 

When activating first partion manually it hangs by the first 2 letters of LILO.

Redhat 6.2 incl. installation) runs without any problems on this system.

Hardware: AMDK6-2/400 // Gigabyte GA-5AX(Rev.4) // 128MB RAM / IBM-DTTA-351010 (10GB) // Creative 52x (IDE) // 2* SMC 1211TX/WL

Any ideas ?

    I´ve got the same problem like Claus. I´am using a GA-686LX3 board with a Pentium II 400 processor and a 4GB harddisk. After installation the error message appears.

    I had this problem too. I used a PartitionMagic boot floppy to set the first partition on the HD Active.

    To be more precise:
    Yes. It is running now (although I am now having fun with Tulip drivers, along with several other people). The problem is that after the install is complete ASL doesn't mark /dev/hda1 as active/bootable. I used Partition Magic to change that simply because I have it. I believe you can do the same with the Linux fdisk utility. If you download the Slackware boot and root disks as described in the Tulip.txt file in the hacking directory on the ASL doc site, you should be good to go.

    Thanx for the info.

    I've flashed the mb bios and suddently it works. (Ver. GA-5AX-1.3 => GA-5AX F3 (now))

    Not fine because it seems that there're problems with the native ali-device driver (ALI Chipset) error-message ..."no native support, tried irq....." eq. this leeds in message => no eth0 found..../during the installation the card was correctly recognised.

    Today i'll change the ide against an scsi hd. / report follows.

    It looks that there are so problems with this chipset.

    FYI - I have been trying Ver2.0 on several systems - Award BIOS seems to have the most problems (BIOS returns "No active partition" error). 
    I have taken drives that did not work with Award and moved them to other machines, and the systems boot fine. 
    As mentioned above - setting the first partition's boot flag fixes this problem.

    yes there are some problems with AWARD bios's (but only older one i think ...)
     
    We do not need a active partition (normally) - because everything during the booting is done by lilo. But we will include the active partition set in next ISO (perhaps this fix the AWARD bug)  - thx for the feedback.

    It looks like the "sfdisk" command during the installation is attempting to set /dev/hda1 as active, but that it's not getting marked as such for some reason.  Some bios will not allow the MBR program to run if there is not an "active" partition.

    So, there is apparently a bug in the version of "sfdisk" being used.

    A workaround would be to include the "activate" binary (from the Lilo source package) and run it right after partitioning the drives.  That would be simpler and more immediate than patching the sfdisk.
