Won't boot after installation

After installing 2.0 on a Pentium II 400 with 128 MB ram and a 6 gig IDE drive, I restarted in order to move on to the browser to complete configuration. The system won't boot up. The error message is "Not found any [active partition] in HDD. DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER." I have re-tried installation several times with the same result. Any ideas?      [:S]

    Hello,

    is seems to be a problem with some HDs. Could you post a Model/Manufacturer?

    As a (temporary) solution, please try to install the ASL once more (sometime it helps).

    HD is a Fujitsu MPC3064AT, 6187 MB. I tried installing it 2 more times, when that didn't work I downloaded a new ISO and burned another copy to try.........that didn't work either. Any ideas? I have another HD but it's 30 GB and I'd rather not tie that up.

    Fairly easy fix for this is to boot the system with a DOS boot disk, run fdisk, and set the first partition active.

    Hi Borracho,

    I would propose you to boot from floppy and diskdump the first 512bytes of your harddisk with zeroes - 
    #dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hd{a,b,c,d} bs=512 count=1

    and try to re-install.

    Second alternative is to make the disk bootable by manual interaction. Boot via bootdisk, mount partitions hdx7 and hdx1 and run the lilo (you mounted with hda7, /) with the information of lilo.conf (you mounted with hda1, /boot).

    Question: what did you install on your harddisk before you tried ASL?
