2.0 install issues.

The same issues that I had experienced in 1.9.50 in the install still exist in the 2.0 install.

The new Tulip driver was not liked by my machine at all.   Although after removing the Nic from the machine and rebooting I had noticed that that same error message was displayed in here Tulip Driver.   Currently to resolve this I have replace my D-Link nic with an Intel nic.

Also the issue with the US keyboard layout not working yet which has existed since I started testing the beta.  I have always selected German layout and was able to install just fine.  This isn't much of an issue after you have the firewall installed.  I am able to ssh into the firewall and do whatever I would need to with a US layout at that time.


I am still very pleased with the product and it has a lot of great features and works very well.  The issues here are mainly install show stoppers that some people may experience that have been addressed in the forums before.   With the improvements that have been brought up there, I see even more potention that this product has to offer.

Couple things that have been brought up.
  DHCP for the external interface
  Webadmin view of /proc/net/ip_conntrack
  and other ideas that Darryl Smith has been able to hack into the product which work very well that someday may be true features.

    whats the problem with the US keyboard layout (i use it always and cant see a issue)?

    Please post the exact name of your d-link card, we tested the new tulip driver with d-link cards and it works.

    And yes, we working on dhcp :-)

    The keyboard layout issue is that in selecting US Keyboard layout on installation.  I immediately goto a bash shell prompt that tells me to type exit to continue which really doesn't lead anywhere.  I had seen someone post a while back stating they had tracked that down to the us layout file not existing.

    The D-Link card has the following name on it
    D-Link DFE-500TX Rev-C3
    Chipnumber is 21140-AE if that helps also.

    I did find it odd that I still got the kernel panic message with the tulip driver loaded but the nic not in the machine when I had reboot after removing that nic.

    I get exactly the same issue when I select US keyboard, ie it goes straight to a bash shell.  This naturally does not give a good impression of the product, one keystroke to oblivion.  I am persevering by selecting German keyboard, but ridiculously  I can't find an @ key to enter a valid email.  hmmmm not too impressed so far.
    btw why do you choose the first network card as the internal network - it is pretty standard to have 0 as ext, 1 as int, and 2 ..n as varying degrees of DMZ.

    I had exactly the same problem when choosing the us keyboard layout. I had to choose the german layout (use alt+64 for the @ sign).

    Now I have the problem that of three HP J2585B NIC only the first one is available.

    I am also experiencing this keyboard layout issue when installing ASL2 on an IBM PC300GL.

    Has this been fixed (if neccessary) or is the best way to get around it to use the German layout. If I still have to use the german layout then how do you get the "@" symbol up in the email address - I have tried this "alt+64" but have so far been unsuccessful. What keystrokes should be used to get this "@" up?

    Well, I tried creating a new Install cd and it worked in US keyboadr layout without a hitch!

    The first CD I used was a Princo 74Min and the Second was a Verbatim DataLife 74Min. They were both made using Nero 5.5 on a 8x Burner under Windows 2000 Server and both were created using the ASL instructions.....

    Well it works so thanks anyway

    mmmmm same problem here I'm afraid, just downloaded 2.0 and burnt with Nero. Tried 3 different cd readers and burnt 2 copies of cd but still the same problem - Sends me straight into (b)ash shell when I select 1 for american keyboard layout. Works perfectly with german layout though.

    Not a great first impression !!!
