3Com 3C982-TXM network card

I've been testing and evaluating version 1.940 (2.0 beta 3). It looks like a great product, and will possibly replace our current firewall. I did have some trouble with the installation however. The machine has a 3Com 3C982-TXM dual-port network card, and during the installation, the card wasn't recoginzed as a network card. I had to also put in another card (a 3Com 3C905B-TXM). With that card the installation was successful.

Interestingly I found that the dual-port card was in fact recognized when I rebooted after the installation. I was even able to configure its ports with the Webadmin utility, which seems contrary to what the documentation for the firewall says.

It would be helpful if the dual-port card could be recognized during the installation, especially since it clearly works. Thanks.

    I hate to follow up on my own post, but I'm actually evaluating version 1.930 (2.0 beta 3), not version 1.940.

    thanks for this information.
    We like to support as many network cards as possible.
    Due to the fact that we don't have such a card, you can help us integrate this card into our hardware detection by sending us the PCI Device ID.

    The PCI Vendor ID is 10b7 for 3Com.

    You can find the ID by logging onto the machine using ssh or the console and executing the following command:
    cat /proc/bus/pci/devices | grep 10b7 | awk '{print $2}'

    Please post the output, it should be something 10b7xxxx.

    With this information we will add it to the next version.

    Sorry for the delay in getting this to you. I was on vacation and away from my computer for the last week.

    The ID I get for this network card is:

    10b79805

    The card has now an entry in our PCI device list and should be recognised and supported by the next ASL release (hopefull 2.0   [;)] )
