hardware compat. list

ok I give...were is the HCL for this distribution (asl 1.9+). I need to know informaton on usb support, scsi support, network card support. Here are the questions I am trying to to answere:
    Does asl support 3com usb nics?
    Does asl support SMC scsi cards? If so, which ones?
    Is there support for plip, ppp, dial-on demand?
    Does asl support Xpeed 200/300?

    In further reading on the list I find that your not supporting ISA NICs. Does this extend to ISA SCSI cards aswell? BTW, why are you not supporting ISA and for that matter PCMCIA too (I have a spare 486/100 laptop that would work just fine for this application). Half of the machines out there that could be recycled for a fw/router dev don't seem to work w/your product due to none support of standard linux devices like ISA, PCMCIA, SCSI and others that I am sure I am forgetting.

    hi donovan,

    while an old spare PC may make a good packet filter or NAT device, its CGI and proxy performance may be poor.

    Minimally, I would recommend 300MHz+ w/ 64MB RAM.

    Ideally, 400MHz+ w/ 128 MB RAM.

    As for disk space, 8-10 gigs should be available.

    Our distribution is not like "a router on a floppy". It is a dedicated firewall system with lots of extra functions.

    As for the support lists, have a look on docs.astaro.org (still a bit ... errrm ... unsorted).
