Is Astaro crippled?

hi there

I'm getting strange behaviour from Astaro.
A few days ago it seemed to have crashed and when I put a monitor and keyboard on my Astaro box it actully looked like it had tried to reboot, but failed. It had run its shutdown script, but when getting to the reboot part, my motherboard probably didn't like it.
I though this might be from the auto update.

Now, when I reboot the machine, I only get Astaro for about 5 minutes, then it ceases to respond.
Is there a time limit on using the non commerial licence that stop you using it for a while?
How can i tell what is causing this?

    Sorry, fixed it.
    Looks like the chroot-smtp was full so i deleted lots of queued mail. My HDD is only 2 gig, minimum spec shoud be 4 i guess.

    BTW, i'm not actually using SMTP proxy, how did it fill up a 100Meg partition for qmail that quickly?

    hi emma,

    there are a few problems when using hardware very close to the minimum, or even under the specs.

    ASL does emergency shutdown when it detects a critical system state (including full partitions). It warns you of that state by sending emails. If your email address is wrongly configured, or bounces for some reason, mail loops may occur, thus overloading the SMTP queue.

    I guess this is what happened in your situation.

    And, by the way, the eval version is not crippled in any way, not timebombed nor feature-limited. Exception: Starting with 2.0 beta1, we must make the virus scanner available only for registered users, because we have sub-licensed it from another vendor.

    I had another shutdown, which failed to reboot, at least I think it was an emergency shutdown. (how can i tell without a keyboard and monitor?). I haven't been receiving mail from Astaro as my mail server is behind the firewall and I'm having problems with it.
    (see DNS proxy post  [:)]
    What are the reasons for emergency shutdowns as i have cleared the mail queue problem, and can't see any other problem.
    Are these emergency shutdowns a good thing do you think? It makes it hard to reconnect a find/fix the problem as the machine goes down very quickly before you have time to solve it.

    well they are a good thing since they prevent unstable system states. we think that in most cases it is better to have no connectivity than unsafe connectivity.

    proper email configuration is essential to use ASL  [:)]tself down.

    i'll take a look at the DNS post.
