2nd install severy little probs

I installed asl a month back and had trouble with the w2k machines on this network. but I'll get to that again after I get the fw up and running

my prob atm is the up2date service. I've done a search for this prob but have found no solution.
the webadmin is running on win98se ie 5

whenever I try to go to the up2date menu in the system tree I get the error

"runtime error has occured do you wish to debug?
line: 90 
error: expected ')' "

it's pretty clear what the error is but it means that I can't get any updates because the same error comes up in every action in the up2date field. when I do try to get updates it just hangs after getting the list...netstat shows no open connections to the address it says.....am I missing something?

    What web browser and version are you running up2date from?

    I would guess that the UP2DATE request is not actually being sent because a syntax error is being found before this happens.

    From what I have seen, when you press UP2DATE some code upens a new window with non-parsed headers and 2 second refresh. It does not seem that you are getting this far.

    I run Win 98 (first edition) and IE5 without problems. It might be that IE has got corrupted somehow, or the patch level you are using of IE has a bug.

    Some solutions...
       a) Use the WINDOWS UPDATE program to make sure your windows system is operating with all bug fixes.
       b) Install another broweser and use it for doing the update. (I would not recomend Netscape 6. It is the best reason to switch to IE5 BTW)
       c) View the source that is trying to run, and run the URL by hand.
