I have been trying to install 1.811 on several systems without success. I install the software, and the hard drive subesequently will not boot.
I have tried this with two different CD's and just tried it with a motherboard with 866mhz celeron, via chipset, 4gb drive, agp video, cd drive.
I have suspected that the LILO is not working on other installs, so I zeroed the /dev/hda (with dd) before install. If I do that, the system does not even boot. I had to fdisk with dos fdisk -mbr to get "missing operating system".
I waited until the hard drive finished flashing at the end of the install, and rebooted with ctl-alt-del (not reset)
When I booted using bash please, several of the partitions seemed to be incomplete. the first one at one time had /tmp/.install-log but I did not see any errors there. Later attempts showed that this partition was empty.
Any ideas what to try next? Do you always try to install on a zero'ed drive? The only instance I have had any luck with had a copy of win98 on it, and no other OS.
Also, previously I had installed Red Hat 7.1 and noticed that though Astaro data ended up on the drive after the Astaro install (scratching 7.1 to do so), I would see the Red Hat Lilo graphic pop up. In those instances I was getting init fail.
