New to Astaro - memory usage seems high?

greetings,

i'm new to astaro with have a fresh install.

all i'm doing with it right now is masking my private IP but the memory usage appears high.

i originally had 128M and was running about 95% of max, so i doubled the RAM and i'm having the same issue.

Maximum: 208402 kb  Average: 204938 kb  Current: 204429 kb

i intend to use this as a VPN gateway as well, which should increase CPU but not memory usage, but my concern is that under heavy load this box will choke.

any comments will be very welcome.

    I have experienced a similar problem, but with only 64 MBytes RAM. LINUX has a philosophy of using about 95% of ram for some purpose. After all, free ram is just wasted.

    The question really is what is contained in this ram - and I do not know what the REPORT graph reports... What linux does is uses excess memory as a disk cache - meaning that accessing files becomes quicker. It is possible that ASTARO is reporting this quantity. 

    If this is the case, I do not think that you have any problems. Once memory gets high enough basically all disk activity will be writing data rather than reading it back. 

    The thing you really need to look at is swap file usage, and the activity on it. I suspect that there will be a few MBytes of swap file usage, but not much will be happening on it.
