mount floppy, CDROM

1. mkdir /mnt/cdrom
2. mkdir /mnt/floppy

then mount floppy like this:

mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy

or cdrom

mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdX /mnt/cdrom

where /dev/hdX is the CDROM device.

I tried this to mount a floppy but my systems says that fat is an unknown filesystem type.

Hi!

For Windows (fat32), you'll need "vfat", for msdos (i.e. fat16) you need type "msdos". There is no type "fat".

Hmm. I try 

mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy

after creating /mnt/floppy and get a message that vfat (and mcdos) is not supported by the kernel.

What am I missing?

OK, you got us  
There is no vfat or msdos support in the ASL Kernel, because this is considered a security flaw. Use scp to transfer files from/to your ASL.

Ok i get it. But for the peeps (like myself) who do not know what scp is use this.

Download a app called putty and read chapter 4 from here http://www.tartarus.org/~owen/putty-docs/output.txt 

Then you are ready to go (i think) 

P.S. putty is for the windows platform.


I still have a stupid question. what do i fill in for user@hostname with scp

loginuser@ipadress ? or not.

for scp, the syntax would be like this:

scp  loginuser@:/path/to/store

Don't forget to enable ssh before trying this, and for copying files from the ASL you got to make a packetfilter rule to allow packets with source address=outgoing-ASL-interface and dport=ssh to leave the ASL.
