Manually update UTM9 from 9.205 to 9.350

Please, could you tell me if I  can download the last update 9.350 from Sophos FTP to upgrade the new V9 appliance I installed yesterday?

Automatic update seems uptodate.

Thank you in advance

Regards, Pascal

  • Pascal,

This is a big frustration of mine also. I can't understand why the build is so old when you take a new hardware appliance out-of-the-box.

While what Tony describes is a completely valid way of doing it, I find it far too frustrating and often it doesn't work as the updates between version 9.2 builds and version 9.3 builds fail because the UTM downloads later versions of 9.2 that confuse the update process. This may have been fixed after the November 18 up2date releases but I have found it is much simpler to simply download the ISO and start the device fresh.

    Download ISOs from here:

Creating a bootable USB from the ISO with Rufus https://rufus.akeo.ie/ is easy as pie.

Then just hook up a keyboard and monitor and pop in the USB key and you are done within minutes. There are no configuration options when doing this to a hardware appliance. Just boot and go. You definitely want the keyboard and monitor so you know when you're finished.

The whole thing takes less time than the other solution and you have a clean system that hasn't been patched 20 times.
