Pattern shows old version on web admin dashboard.

somehow there is a problem that when a new pattern is installed it does not show up on the web admin dashboard.  I get an email that the pattern is now 9.8302 but this is what the web portal shows:

Firmware version:        9.351-3
Pattern version:        91027

I am using the home use version running on VMware ESXi 6.0

  • The number on the dashboard is the global pattern version, which is made up of a number of different individual patterns, some of which will not update if not enable. For example, IPS, GEOIP, Sophos AV, and Avira AV. Check the Up2Date log. If you have everything enabled and the log shows that everything updated without issue, try logging out of WebAdmin, then logging in again.

  • Scott,

So the end users should ignore Firmware update messages as the GUI will never show the number emailed to them? The one thing that SOHO users might want is to AUTO install firmware after x days of release at hour x:xx and reboot.

Because we have to deal with stuck windows updates I assume I need to read the email on when a pattern is installed and see that the web interface shows the same number. If you ware telling me to ignore pattern updates and focus on firmware updates that is what I will do.

I can see some people just letting updates run and NEVER looking at the firewall, in that case the firmware would be terribly out of date and they may have a security incident...

    Thanks,
    Joe
  • I'm not saying ignore, just the pattern version number is not the whole story. :)

If you go to Management > Up2Date > Configuration, you can set how often patterns and firmware updates are checked for. The different areas that pattern updates covers get updated anywhere from several times a day to once a month (AV patterns are frequent, GEOIP is once per month, as examples). Firmware is usually one per month for regular updates, but occasionally there is an emergency patch popped out.

If you use the automatic intervals for check, patterns are also automatically installed, firmware will be downloaded only and you'll need to manually initiate the update or schedule it for updating at a time of your choosing. With firmware, when downloaded, you'll have access to the changelog at Management > Up2Date > Overview, before installing.
