Migration von virtueller zu Software-Appliance

Hallo Sophos-Gurus,

 

da auf unserem VMWare ESXi die Ressourcen zur Neige gehen, plane ich unsere Sophos UTM 9 auf eine neue Hardware zu mirgrieren, wobei es sich um keine Hardware-Appliance im eigentlichen Sinne handelt, sondern um eine Server-Hardware, auf der ich die Appliance-Software aufspielen möchte.

Existiert eine Anleitung wie bei der Migration vorzugehen ist ?

Ich nehme an, dass die Sache nicht so einfach ist, dass ich ein Backup aus der virtuellen Appliance in die neue Installation auf der Server-Hardware einspielen kann, oder etwa doch ?

    Doch, es ist fast so einfach.

    Theoretisch Configbackup machen, neuen Server von ISO installieren bis man an dem Punkt ist, wo er nach Recovery eines Backups fragt. Um die Logs kümmert sich Sophos nicht, "was war ist vergangen", die also ggf. vorher abziehen, falls in irgendeiner Form benötigt.

    Ein Punkt, an dem es vermutlich Trouble geben wird ist der Zeitpunkt, wenn sie auf die Config des Backups schwenkt. Das liegt daran, dass die Zuordnung der MAC-Adressen nicht mehr passt. Hatte ich kürzlich bei einem Umzug von Hardware zu Software. Die Interfaces waren nach dem Reboot weg, ich musste quasi lokal an die Maschine dran, um dann auf Shellebene ein Interface wieder "UP" zu nehmen und die übrigen Interfaces wieder korrekt zuzuordnen.

    vielen Dank für die Schenlle Antwort.

    Haben Sie das "upen" der Interfaces mittels über ifconfig erledigt, oder müssen dazu unter /sbin/init.d/notworks die Dateien editiert werden ?

    Hallo Tobias,

    Erstmal herzlich willkommen hier in der Community !

    (Sorry, my German-speaking brain isn't creating thoughts at the moment. [:(])

    I learned a "trick" here that obviates the MAC address issue.  Before taking the configuration backup off the VM, go to the 'Hardware' tab of 'Interface & Routing >> Interfaces'.  For each of the NICs in use, set the Virtual MAC to be identical to the "physical" MAC.  Now, when you restore the configuration backup to the new UTM, it will automatically have the correct addresses.

    This enables you to have a switch-over that takes only a minute.  After you have the new device up and ready, power down the VM and move the Ethernet cables.  Since the NICs might be in a different order on the new hardware device, you may need to switch Ethernet cables between NICs.
