Welche Hardware für welche Bandbreite?

Hallo,

ich nutze seit langem die Home Version auf einem alten PC und war total zufrieden. Jetzt habe ich meinen Kabelanschluss auf 150 MBit/s "aufgebohrt" und bekomme nach der UTM "nur" noch ca. 100 MBit/s an. (Direkt am Anschluss habe ich aber die volle Leistung).

Aktuell habe ich einen alten Pentium 4, 2 GB RAM, und 4 x GBit NICs im Einsatz.


Welche Hardware wäre sinnvoll um die volle Leistung (+Reserve) zu erhalten?

    Hi, Marc, and welcome to the UTM Community!

    There's a thread at the top of the Hardware forum that's an "unofficial" hardware compatibility list.  Also, fellow member William has posted often about Snort being the limitation for speed.  You will want the highest GHz you can afford, but 3GHz probably will be more than you need for 150Mbps.  There's no point in having a quad-core processor if you don't have more than two active clients at the same time.

    Hi Marc / Bob,

    ich gebe Bob Recht das in der jetzigen Situaition ein Quadcore nicht notwendig ist. Ich size bei solchen Planungen aber immer mit Zukunftssicherheit. Wie lange möchtest du das neue System verwenden? Was passiert wenn dein Kabelanbieter in 2 Jahren 500 MBit zur Verfügung stellt oder die UTM mit neuen Funktion zur Threat Abwehr ausgestattet wird die mehr Performance benötigen?

    Wie Bob schon sagte, es gibt Threats in diesem Forum die über das Thema philosophieren. Aber alle betrachten nur die jetzige Situaition, nicht die Zukunft.

    Letztendlich ist es davon abhängig was du investieren möchtest ;)
