Looking to add DHCP Option for SSL VPN users

Hello everyone,

I've got a client corporation that is using VoIP phones from home and connecting to the client home network using the Sophos UTM 9 SSL VPN connection. Before anyone says that this sounds like a bad idea from a latency/jitter standpoint, we have suggested several times not to run their VoIP set up this way and they've moved ahead with this design anyway.

The issue that I'm having now is that they want to add a DHCP scope option to this remote VPN IP network that is typical when setting up DHCP options for VoIP networks. I've added the options in the DHCP section, however, it appears that this only takes effect when attached to an actual DHCP server, and not the Virtual IP Pool in the SSL VPN setup.

I'm looking for some options on how to get this set up, particularly when considering the configuration knowing they are coming through the SSL VPN. Should I set up a DHCP server on the Sophos, or should I point a DHCP relay to the internal DHCP server? Would I need to extend the vlan the internal network is on for SSL VPN users if I set up a relay? Is it a good idea to have the DHCP listener on the external (internet) interface in the first place?

Any advice would be appreciated!

  • Hi Justin and welcome to the UTM Community!

This is only possible from the command line, so you probably want to open a ticket with Sophos Support.
