Can't ping UTM using Hostname

Hello,

I can't ping the Sophos UTM using its hostname.  Can anyone reply with a couple ideas of things to try?

Sophos UTM 192.168.1.1:4444 - Which I can ping 192.168.1.1

However, I can't ping - firewall.example.house

Management - System Settings - Hostname = firewall.example.house

Management - HTTPS Cert - Re-generate WebAdmin - Previously I had changed the name and re-generated the certs - got a new cert with firewall.example.house

Interfaces - Interfaces - I tried entering the firewall.example.house into the hostname on the internal NIC.

Checked - Allow ICMP on gateway
Checked - Allow ICMP through gateway
Checked - Allow ICMP through Gateway from external networks

Checked - Gateway is ping visible
Checked - Ping from gateway

Also firewall.example.house is setup for DDNS in Sophos.

Trying to browse internally to firewall.example.house:4444 with an SSL cert instead of 192.168.1.1:4444

Thanks,

~Aaron

  • So from your internal network (192.168.1.0/24), you want to ping firewall.test.house which represents your firewall?

If so, then what ever you are using for your dns needs to have that host record entered which maps to that ip. If using the UTM DNS, it sounds like you have done this.
